China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) received Q3 2017 tourist statistics from 94.26% of the travel agencies in the country, or 25,835, of all the 27,409 travel agencies in the country.
Inbound tourism
Consolidate statistics from the submitted data show that a total of 9.5865 million inbound tourists were received in Q3 2017, 73.18% more than the same time last year. The visitors stayed a total of 20.3008 million days in China, up 2.79%.
The top 10 visitor source markets (in descending order) were Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia, Macao, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Domestic tourism
In the third quarter of 2017, organized domestic tours generated 49.2063 million tourists and 158.6223 million days of visit, up by 3.15% and 2.78%, while domestic ground handling received 51.7602 million travelers and 129.5286 million days of visit, down by 14.06% and 6.87% respectively.
The top 10 provinces in China for domestic organized tours (in descending order) were Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hubei, Chongqing, Fujian, Hunan and Liaoning.
Outbound tourism
In the third quarter of 2017, 15.4913 million Chinese traveled abroad for about 81.4276 million days, down by 9.01% and 10.88%.
The 10 most popular destinations for Chinese tourists (in descending order) were Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Russia and Indonesia.
Overall market
For the period, inbound travel continued to constitute 6% of the total number of travelers, while domestic and outbound tourism contributed 72% (+4.35%) and 22% (-12%) respectively.
In terms of days of travel, inbound, domestic and outbound tourism comprised 8% (+33.33%), 61% (+3.39%) and 31% (-11.43%) of the total number of days of travel in Q3 2017.
