William Ellwood Heinecke, founder & chairman of Thailand's top hotel group Minor International, said he expects more Chinese tourists to return to the Southeast Asian country in the second half of 2023. The company's business will then get back close to the 2019 levels, according to Mr. Heinecke.

Meituan posts a record adjusted net profit of $778.3 million in Q1
Online hotel and lifestyle service company Meituan reported that its revenues increased by 26.7% to RMB 58.6 billion (USD 8.3 billion) in the first quarter of 2023. The adjusted EBITDA and adjusted net profit were RMB 6.3 billion (USD 891.5 million) and RMB 5.5 billion (USD 778.3 million) for this quarter respectively, reaching the company’s highest level. Room nights during the Chinese New Year holiday increased by over 40% compared to the same periods of 2022 and 2019.
Tencent-backed travel firm posts more than 50% rise in Q1 revenue
Tongcheng Travel, a Hong Kong-listed online travel company jointly invested by Tencent and Trip.com Group, said its first-quarter revenue rose more than 50% to RMB 2,586 million (USD 366.9 million). Some 80% of its average MAUs were contributed by Tencent's Weixin mini program.

China's outbound travel visa applications surge, driven by pent-up demand
Chinese travelers' enthusiasm for outbound trips, pent up for about three years, has been unleashed with a surge in visa applications lately, the Global Times has learned. In Shanghai, visa applications for temporary entry to the US for business or tourism have been booked until October, while the earliest available date for French visa application is in August, travel agencies told the Global Times.
