The evolving demographics of Chinese outbound travel show a jump in younger female travelers. According to a recent travel sentiment survey conducted by China Trading Desk, 62% of outbound travelers were female. Among them, almost 40% fell within the ages of 18 to 24, and a little over 27% were 25 to 29-year-olds.
Foreign countries must take steps to attract more Chinese tourists
Chinese tourists were expected to flock to foreign destinations once China lifted its pandemic prevention and control measures last year, but statistics from the China Tourism Academy in March revealed that only 87 million trips abroad were made in 2023, just 56% of the 2019 level. Chinese airlines add transpacific capacity but US peers are still unenthusiastic
Starting in April, Chinese airlines will increase capacity on flights to the US. The US Department of Transportation has approved the increase of weekly round-trip flights between the US and China from 35 to 50 by Chinese airlines. But the increase still falls short of the more than 150 round-trip flights that were allowed by each side before the pandemic. The three largest US airlines in March stated they are delaying the resumption of many flights to China, which were cut early during the Covid-19 pandemic, until at least late October.
