ChinaTravelNews – China’s domestic GDS TravelSky reported y-o-y growth of 3.6% in total revenue to RMB2.63 billion (approx: US$412.8 million) in the first half of 2015. Pre-tax profits increased 7.4% y-o-y to RMB1.396 billion (approx: US$219 million) and profit attributable to shareholders was up 2% y-o-y, totaling RMB1.156 billion (approx: US$181 million).
China's GDS TravelSky made big profits from the nation's aviation boom
TravelSky’s data technology service contributed to 57.8% of the group’s total revenue, up from 53.9% in the same period last year. The division generated RMB1.5213 billion (approx: US$238.8 million) revenue in the first half of this year, 11.1% higher than RMB1.3698 billion (approx: US$215 million) in the same period last year, mainly from its ICS flight control system, computer distribution system (CRS), airport passenger processing (APP) services, as well as growth in passenger volume leading to increased income from extended data technology services related to its core operations.
TravelSky profited from the boom in Chinese aviation in 2015. Its electronic travel distribution (ETD) system processed around 226.4 million (approx: US$35.5 million) air ticket bookings, up 12.3% y-o-y. Up to 106 regional carriers and major airlines used its APP system and its proprietary Angel Cue, and they processed 5.4 million (approx: US$847,657) departures from 72 airports.
Three major Chinese carriers, including Air China and Hainan Airlines, have introduced TravelSky’s original fully-automated luggage processing system into their operations in the first half of 2015. Its self-check-in system compliant with IATA standards was used in 110 major airports in China and its online check-in service was used in 215 airports domestically and internationally.
TravelSky’s billing system processed 356.1 million transactions, 136.5 million BSP tickets, US$3.8 billion in agent billed passengers, cargo, postal revenue and miscellaneous fees and RMB9.3 billion (approx: US$1.45 billion) in e-payments in the first half of 2015.
TravelSky continued to upgrade its system platform, improve products and implement multi-channel marketing to increase its hotel room night sales volume to 260,000 rooms in the first half of the year, up 10.7% y-o-y. Its cargo processing volume also grew y-o-y by 2.7% to reach 7.6 million billings in the same period.(Translation by David)
