Hong Kong’s tourism industry does not expect a happy Easter despite predictions that visitors and residents will make 11 million trips in and out of the city over the holiday weekend and the Ching Ming Festival. The city expects about 9.5 million trips made through land checkpoints between Thursday and April 7.
Singapore Tourism Board aware of China’s casino concerns
A senior official of Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has said the body is “aware” of a statement by China’s embassy in Singapore asking Chinese citizens to stay away from gambling when overseas, and that the tourism authority had “respect” for the concerns expressed. The comment passed to GGRAsia was attributed to Andrew Phua, STB executive director, international group, Greater China. It addressed “China market media query”, said the tourism board.
China’s outbound tourism rebounds with visa-free boom and surge in Middle East
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is emerging as a key destination for Chinese travelers, alongside traditionally popular outbound markets like Thailand and Malaysia, according to data from online travel agencies Ctrip, Tongcheng, Tuniu, Mafengwo, and Zuzuche. All of the top five popular countries offer visa-free entry or visas on arrival to Chinese citizens.
Manchester-Shanghai route to launch in July
Juneyao Air initially announced the Manchester-Shanghai route in 2019, but had to postpone its launch due to the pandemic. On July 1 the carrier will begin its three-times-weekly flights to Shanghai, operated by a two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The flights will take place on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays.
MGM to launch Mirage hotel in Shanghai
Property developer Tishman Speyer announced a hotel management agreement with Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality to create and operate a Mirage by MGM within the final mixed-use tower being developed at The Springs in Shanghai. The hotel will open in 2027.
Radisson Hotel Group to debut in New Zealand's Auckland
Radisson Hotel Group has revealed its plan to enter Auckland, New Zealand, with a Radisson RED brand hotel in 2025. The Radisson RED Auckland will be the latest addition to the brand's portfolio, which includes nearly 80 hotels in operation and under development across the globe.

Tianjin cruise port sees tourism revival
As the largest cruise home port in north China, Tianjin International Cruise Home Port has handled more than 200,000 inbound and outbound passengers since its full resumption of international cruise ship transport on Sept. 27, 2023. The port is expected to welcome over 120 international cruise ships in 2024.
