Chinese airlines cut European flights

Limited subsidies and weak demand drive the cancellations.

China Eastern Airlines will suspend its Wenzhou-Madrid route at the end of this month, according to a Bloomberg report.

The route, launched on November 22 last year, has operated for less than a year.

An industry analyst attributes the flight cancellation to reduced local subsidies and low passenger demand.

In August, the Civil Aviation Administration of China issued guidelines for developing international aviation hubs. The key directives include:

* No subsidies for international routes connecting airports other than international hub airports (such as hub airports in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou).

* Legality reviews of subsidies to prevent unfair competition and maintain a stable policy environment for international air transport.

But changes have also emerged on international routes from major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.

China Southern Airlines recently announced that several flights to Paris, Rome, London, and Amsterdam scheduled for October to December will not operate as planned. The airline did not provide specific reasons for the cancellations.
